Chapter Fourteen

Family Reinforcement

O‘Hara had a hell of a time keeping her out of the medical facility once they got back to the base in Afghanistan. The base commander was not happy, but knew of his team’s reputation. He knew O’Hara would not put anyone in his unit in danger unnecessarily, so he let it go with a note that it was against his own advisement. Bosses always knew how to cover their asses with paper from anyone over head. That tactic didn’t change in the military. He scrambled a call to the base at the Navy Air Station while they were on route flying over international waters.

“Echo one to base one,” O’Hara called into the SAT-phone.

“Base one to echo one. Go ahead,” the base operator responded.

“Get General Pierce on the line ASAP. We have an emergency,” O’Hara ordered.

“Stand by, Echo one.” The line was quiet for a while.

Then the General’s voice was on the line, “What happened, O’Hara?”

“Cat’s down in what looks like a coma. We can’t bring her around, even with doing what I did in New York,” O’Hara filled him in the immediate part.

“Her mates have been going bug crazy. If it wasn’t for the tracking device, they would have been out there themselves tracking her down. To hell with security, I’m bringing them up here and putting them on. I assume it looks bad for her?” General Pierce asked in a heavy voice.

“I think we are losing her, Sir,” O’Hara answered honestly.

“Stand by.” Silence again ensued. Then one of her mates was on, “O’Hara, it’s Demitri. Tell me her condition.”

“It looks like a coma; she has two wounds, one on her shoulder, and one in her stomach. She is feeding, but her pulse rate is 4 to 5 beats per every 15 seconds. Breathing shallow and no pupil response. Both of her ear drums look like they were busted from an explosive concussion,” O’Hara finished up what he knew about the situation.

“We can’t feel her. We would have thought we lost her, if it wasn’t for that device in her arm. I’m sending help now,” Demitri told him.

“How...?” O’Hara started to ask, “Fuck!” Shamus popped into the plane. They all saw it. Guns were pulled and aimed at this intrusion from what seemed out of thin air.

“Stand down. Stand down, it’s a friendly. Hold your fire,” O’Hara ordered loudly. Talking into the phone, “Great fucking job. We had this contained up until now.”

“I’m sorry about that, but we don’t have time to pussy-foot around. Right now, she’s a priority. Nothing else matters,” Demitri told him straight out. He didn’t give a shit. He just wanted her healed and now. O’Hara could understand that, but it was still a FUBAR situation. And he’ll have to clean it up.

“Fine. Echo one out,” O’Hara slammed the set down.

“Do you mind telling me, Captain O’Hara, what the fuck is going on? Who is this ...person? How the fuck did he get on this plane?” Captain Holland was yelling questions at him.

“I don’t have time for this.
